Joe should get scan results in a fortnight

Joe will know in 2 weeks if scans show any leftover cancer after his chemotherapy treatments.

This is not totally definitive, since small amounts of cancer cells don’t show on the scans. But the scans will likely be followed up, in a few weeks, by some exploratory surgery that will allow the surgery team to have a direct look inside his abdominal cavity.

That surgery will give Joe almost 100% certainty of what the result is.

Spinal surgery for Joe :(

Well, there were somewhat bad news – although not very bad.

Joe found out that he had some spinal cord problems that require urgent surgery around his neck. The surgery team will need to fuse several vertebrae to make sure that he keeps full use of his limbs.  Surgery is tomorrow.

This is probably unrelated to his cancer – but it may have been partially caused by some side effects of the chemo.

Joe is game, as always.

Nov 16 Packers Party CANCELLED

We were so excited at the Friends Of Joe’s to close the year with a great potluck Packers Party with Joe, right before his surgery!

But – something happened. We had planned a whole party around a noon game time start, as published in the official season schedule. We had no idea that the NFL can actually change game times mid-season. Last week-end, the NFL announced a game time change to mid-afternoon.

Between the logistics difficulties of the change, and the concerns about a late afternoon party for all of us with an early school start the next day, we finally decided today that we needed to cancel the Packers party 😦

It’s really too bad…

So, if you want to support Joe, please donate right now, or buy a Friends of Joe’s shirt right away!

The Night at the Park raised more than $20,000!

You are incredible!

The Friends of Joe’s Night at the Park raised $22,000 for Joe!

There were over 1,100 attendees! (there were more, but we did not have everyone check in at the gate reliably, so we don’t know for sure how much more)

We raised over $5,000 at the silent auction!

We had more than 65 high school students how volunteered, and more than 150 total volunteers who set up the event!

You are wonderful!

THANK YOU for coming to the Night at the Park!

You were amazing! So many of you came and contributed to this phenomenal event! What an incredible turnout! We ran out of parking by the park early, and had to have a bunch of parking attendants directing cars to the other side of the park, on Main Street! We ran out of tickets and had to reuse already used tickets! We had over 150 volunteers!

We are still counting the money, and figuring out how many attendees we had – but it looks like we had more than 750 attendees, maybe much more. We will know more in a couple of days and will let you all know.

THANK YOU!

Today is Sep. 13 and it is a beautiful day!

The big day has arrived and it is BEAUTIFUL!

It is all so exciting:  the food is already at the concession, the tables are waiting, the tents are ready to be raised. There are close to 150 volunteers signed up if you include the generous Arrowhead High Schoolers (NHS and the boys’ soccer team signed up in great quantities!). I wish we had taken more pictures in the process to document how much work went into it, and from so many!

It will be a lovely day. Come to Pollworth Park! Bring your family. Bring your friends. Come and stay the evening with us and a bundle of warm clothes . We have plenty of food, warm and cold beverages, and even old-fashioned cotton candy! And the kids will have so much fun!
